Beyond Produce Prescriptions: The Politics of Dietary Choice
Marion Nestle, Author, Nutritionist and Professor Emerita, New York University
Marion, the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, Emerita, at NYU, will discuss the challenges of produce prescriptions, which are great but depend on access to the health care system and are limited in reach. She will address the politics of produce in America, from production to consumption, and will suggest policy changes that might make a positive difference in produce intake and population health.

Katie Calligaro, Director of Marketing and Communications, Foundation for Fresh Produce
Katie will discuss how plant-passionate communicators can help improve health by encouraging readers and shoppers to incorporate more fruits and vegetables. The Foundation works to “improve the appeal of fresh produce as an integral part of people’s diets, supporting the development of infrastructure and supply chain solutions that provide easier access, and establishing strategic alliances that enable children and families to form healthier eating habits.”

Jill Overdorf, Chef and Produce Ambassador
Jill, who has more than two decades of experience as an executive chef, plus leadership roles in business, culinary and marketing in the produce industry, will be providing a hands-on demonstration of uncommon and unusual produce items. “We will look at how to get to Five-a-Day in the most fun way. We’ll explore the unusual through a guided tasting of several items available in the produce world that are not common but are flavorful and delicious.”
